Director George Miller’s latest film, Mad Max: Fury Road, recently released to nearly unanimous critical acclaim. Before that, however, he was set to bring DC’s greatest superheroes together in Justice League: Mortal. That movie had a polarizing cast and storyline, and before it could begin shooting, it was cancelled. Last week saw the DVD/Blu-Ray release of the animated film Batman Unlimited: Animal Instincts, which is inspired by Mattel’s Batman Unlimited toyline. The movie saw the Caped Crusader teaming up with Red Robin, Nightwing, Green Arrow and The Flash to take on animal-themed villains. It was previously reported that a sequel to the film would debut later this year, and now, we know exactly when. When DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres early next year, joining Arrow and The Flash, three DC Entertainment shows will also run simultaneously on The CW. Crossovers between all three shows have been expected, and according to The Flash star Grant Gustin, that is the plan. Speaking with Buzzfeed, Gustin says that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow feels less like a spin-off and more like a third part of the same story being told by The Flash and Arrow. After years of development and a highly successful television series, The Flash is finally heading to the big screen in his own movie. Despite CBS’ Supergirl being created by the same team behind Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, there is currently no hurry to integrate Kara Zor-El into the DC CW Universe. All of these shows are being produced by Greg Berlanti, who is the subject of the latest cover of Variety. For several years, Warner Bros. had in development a film based on DC Comics’ Lobo. Guy Ritchie was originally set to direct before dropping out. Brad Peyton replaced him, and Dwayne Johnson entered talks to star. Later, however, “The Rock” – who is now set to play Black Adam in 2019’s Shazam – revealed that the Lobo movie was shelved.
